A Leading Edge Learning Environment
Environmental Elements:
Lighting
Provide better lighting and lighting control to help keep the student's attention.
· Indirect Distribution - "Bounced" light alleviates glare from the light source, desk tops, computer screens, etc.
· Source - Electronic ballasts and T-8 lamps alleviate perceived "flicker", and provide
correct "color", thereby significantly eliminating eye strain.
· Focus - Concentrated lighting at marker boards subliminally attracts students'
attention.

· Control - Through simple switching, several levels of lighting are achievable: from
presentation, multiple levels of general lighting, and/or adjust for daylighting.
· Maintenance - All ballasts have 20 year life expectancy; all bulbs have a minimum 5 year
life, are readily accessible and available through common supply channels. There are fewer lens to become clouded or require cleaning.
· Energy Efficiency - At approximately 1.1 watts per square foot, energy usage is substantially less than the 1.5 to 2 watts per square foot average.

A unique collaboration of school administrators, educators, architects, engineers, construction managers, and product manufacturers worked together to make it happen.
The real challenge to such a progressive effort is the reality of budget constraints facing most School Districts. To discover all that can be accomplished is truly exciting. |
